Here is a sketch that I started a while ago, very spring-ish inspired. :) I am planning on illustrating in on a big sheet of watercolor paper and it will have lots and lots of flowers/ details. Not sure when I will actually start the final illustration but hope soon. Wish me luck!

It's been so cold and cloudy these past weeks and I am more and more ready for spring, sunshine and green trees. I wanted to make this post series a little different than taking pictures so I thought of making little videos and putting them together in 1 minute movie. It didn't turned out exactly the way I wanted but it was fun trying. :)
The song in the background is called "Anything boy" by Skypiper, an indie/folk/rock band of a few friends of mine, based in Omaha, NE. I love their music. Go check them out! :)
Note: We made the video using a Nikon D90 camera and a 50mm lens.

Many people are telling me that through the pictures that I share on the blog, life and motherhood seems so easy and perfect. I respect everybody's opinions and thoughts, don't get me wrong, but life is not easy nor perfect. I choose to concentrate on the good things in what I share and I want to have this little corner of the internet a positive place. Also, the things that I share are just a tiny little bit of life. I appreciate all the beautiful things in life, the blessings, people, details, hugs, smiles, kisses, the little things that can brighten up the day of a sometimes tired, uninspired or overwhelmed mom such as myself and maybe others too.

DIY: Love notes

I have this little fun DIY project to share with you guys especially with Valentine's day approaching. But I am sure that you don't say "I love you" to your dear ones just once a year, so this can be handy every time you want to say it in a little more special way. :)
Here's what you'll need and how to do it:

First, measure your paper and cut it into 3 pieces ( I used a 8x5 inches/ 300g watercolor paper). Then fold the paper pieces in 2.
Combine 1-2 cups of water and 1 tsp of gouache or watercolor paint then stir. Insert the folded paper in the colored water. Let it dry.
You can create stronger layers of color by adding from time to time a little more gouache color in the water. Use the paint brush to create new layers.
Let it dry and repeat as desired.
When all the color layers are done and dried, cut the angles of the card and the middle top so that it will form a geometric heart shape. After you're done the note cards are ready to write on! :)

Happy Monday everyone! This is Amanda of the Folklure blog, and I am so stoked to be here! Oana was very kind to invite me over to her blog and share a post with y'all today. Since this is an 'artsy lifestyle blog' I thought it fitting to share a DIY in which you make your own art print- no skill required. Since not all of us are blessed with Oana's crazy illustration skills, this is a cheap,easy DIY to hang on your art wall. I found the idea for this project on the How About Orange blog and immediately fell in love with it.
Here is what you do:

1. Hit up your local home improvements store and gather paint swatches in the colors of your choice. I went for green and blue hues- and added touches of red for that extra pop.
TIP: When you're choosing your colors, stick to two colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, and the third 'accent' color should be directly across from your select colors on the wheel.

2. When your kids are napping and you don't feel like doing laundry, break out the scissors and your swatches! Cut triangles out of you color swatches- don't worry about them being even, the different angles and sides will add to the 'geometric mess' look you are going for.

3. Apply glue to a sheet of paper that will fit in the frame you plan on using. Just lather that baby up evenly. Randomly pick up the triangles, and start sticking them anywhere you please! They can overlap, and don't try too hard to 'place' the colors- just grab and stick.
4. Pop your geometric mess into a padded frame and TA-DA! Modern Art.

I made this little pillow at the end of last year and thought I might introduce it to you. :) I painted the birdie with non toxic textile acrylic on white fabric and sew it by hand. I am planning on having a few of these in my shop when I will reopen it in April. :)

My love just came home today after a few days work trip, so Sammy and I had a lot of time on our own with lovely visits from his auntie Estera in the evenings. Here are some pictures capturing just a few moments from the past days: pretty flowers in the window/ memories/ playing with Eric Carle's flash cards/ flowers on my work table/ playing around/ toys everywhere/ reading in the evenings/ happy feet/ note/ fresh home made cinnamon rolls for daddy's arrival.

We just came back from a long and relaxing holiday trip at my parents house and had my sisters with us as well. We haven't been all together for like two years, so it was a pretty fun time. I'm also recovering after a little stomach flu (not fun) but we are finally home and work has officially started. I am planning on adding some new posts on the blog and I will be back soon.

Our lil' Christmas tree

A few peeks of our Christmas tree this year that we actually started to decorate since late November. Just could't wait! :) I really love natural Christmas trees but since we usually travel a lot during holidays an artificial one it's the best option for us. And this year I opted for fewer colors (the classic red and white) with simple globes and paper hand made decorations. Isn't the little crochet angel on the top of the tree just adorable?? It's made by my talented mom!

I've been working on this illustration since last week. It's going a little slow since I am working on it during Sammy's nap times, but I am hoping to get it done soon. Happy Monday everyone! Can you believe that Thanksgiving is almost here!? Time flies way too fast. And speaking of Thanksgiving, I sometimes struggle with looking at the half empty side of the glass instead of the full side. I forget to be thankful for the things in my life, even little "insignificant" ones that we sometimes take for granted like water or a rooftop over our heads. I like making little notes and having them around the house, little reminders not only for an occasion but for everyday. DIY: A place to hide & play

It's been cloudy and rainy this past week so we had a little fun indoor kiddo project that I thought I might share with you. I haven't done a DIY project in a looong time anyway!
It's really easy to make, soft, light and you can move it anywhere in the house. I used a 1x3 meters/ 3'-3" x 9'-10" polyester foam sheet, cut it and sew it. You can use it as a play tent, for storing toys etc and older kids can also draw on it and decorate it. It can be cut in any shapes you want, that's just how we did it.

The pictures can't tell but I've been dealing with a really cranky baby these past days. It's been really challenging to keep him satisfied and busy, let me tell you. Since he's always trying to grab my pencils while I'm working at the table I thought it was time to give him a little "work". So he enjoyed practicing his "drawing" skills and holding the crayons skills! Pretty cute! :)

Wood + oil colors

Back in May I experimented my white ink colors on some of these nice wood pieces from my dad. Today I played a little with my oil colors that I didn't touch in almost 2 years!!! :D So I had a little fun doing these table coasters. I still have to wait for them to dry until I can actually use them.
I love experimenting different mediums but in the end I realize that watercolors are still my favorites. :)

Across the rivers and the seas

We are back from a little trip with my parents and sister in law down to the Danube River and The Black Sea. Our little one had the most fun playing in the sea water and running on the beach picking all the seashells. :)

I've been working a little more on the alphabet series and you probably guessed already what letter I am doing right now. :) Jeremy captured this picture today with me sketching and thought that is so funny how serious I look when I am concentrated on something. :P

A few random pictures from our little escape to the seaside last week. Oh, how I missed it!..
The water was perfect, Sammy had to taste the sand, splashed in the water and made some real steps by himself, we had lots of ice cream and enjoyed the breeze! :)

We had a lot of stuff going on lately and this weekend Jeremy and I had to shoot a friend's wedding plus my computer's hard rive crashed :((!!! So I am taking a little break of things such as computer/ internet and just spend some time with this little family of mine. Hello deer

I did this 'deer face' collage a few days ago after looking through one of my sketchbooks. I had a few sketches with many different party masks of different animals that I thought it would work great for a little party but didn't had the time to make any. Hope to be able to make the rest of them as well. Wish me luck! :)
Materials: watercolor paper, watercolors, ink, brown craft paper, scissors, wood sticks and glue to sustain the back.

Flying

If I would have to choose a supernatural power between flying and living underwater I would definitely choose flying. There seems to be something so magical about it and I love birds. :)
Today I had a some fun doing these birdies paper cuts and I probably had more fun taking the pictures. I love how the light was making al these beautiful shades and transparencies. The wind was moving them a lot so the shots are random but sweet. Don't you think? I want to do more now and I am getting all new ideas. :)

I am sorry for not posting that much lately. It's been so busy around here. But I had a nice relaxing walk this evening with my sis Estera and some dear friends and I thought I might share one or two pictures. I just love how my little one is snuggling in my arms and the lights are so pretty.

Outside is so warm as if you were in a bottle, you can hardly breathe. So we are spending most of our days indoors, taking advantage of just a little bit cooler evenings and waiting for some holiday. How are you spending your warm summer days?? Hope you're having a nice, cool weekend! Xo!

A page of one of my sketchbooks. Sometimes I feel like leaving the drawings as they are, withought adding color and this is one of them, at least for now. :)
Plats are amazing, there's so much beauty, simplicity and detail in the same time. These leafs are from a linden tree besides our flat, their flowers used to smell so good a few weeks ago.

Birthday boy

A few days ago it was our little one's birthday. We learned a lot this past year and his presence, his smiles, sounds, hugs and cuddles are a real joy and a blessing to our lives. It's amazing how fast he changes, how much he is learning every day and how his little personality is taking shape.
One particularly thing is that this little man is a world traveller. He's been in 8 airplane flights starting with 4 months old (2 of them 10 hours long each), he traveled in 5 states in the US and he had a few days trip to Rome as well and he's been so good... so far. :) We are so thankful!
I just posted a few pictures from his special day.

One year...

My heart is racing! The reason is that I feel like just a few weeks ago I had a big belly that I was trying to carry around and in fact it's been almost one year since I am carrying a baby boy in my arms that's getting heavy and my back starts hurting. In one week he will be one year old!!!
I am starting to prepare a little birthday party and since I am getting all warm and fuzzy inside, I thought I might post just a few pictures with the bump and our little one. I just realized as I was browsing my pictures that I have too many pictures to count with this little guy. And this is good, it's just hard to chose! :) Xo!
